Not only does Stowe, Vermont have some of the best skiing terrain on the East Coast at Stowe Mountain Resort, but we also have an awesome après ski scene! We wanted to create a guide to help you navigate the aprés ski scene like a local.
Best Spots for Drinking Beer in Your Ski Pants
The Matterhorn: Sometimes, you just need to have a beer (or a few!) on the way home from the slopes. You will find the local ski bums at the Matterhorn, which is going to be your first stop on the way down Mountain Road. It’s an eclectic bar that serves both sushi & pizza, and the bar is lined with sticker covered mugs that belong to the locals. It’s a Stowe classic, and an après ski must.
The Backyard: The new and improved “Yard” as locals call it, is one of our favorites. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is relaxing. You may have even seen it on an episode of Bravo’s Winter House.
Piecasso: Another great place to stop while still in your ski pants is Piecasso, where you can get a whole pizza pie or just order by the slice. They also serve the Alchemist’s Heady Topper & have a great selection of Vermont craft beers on tap. It’s both a family friendly & fun atmosphere to hangout after skiing!
Sushi Yoshi: Some of the best aprés deals in town are at Sushi Yoshi. You’ll find different deals each day of the week in their bar area. We love to grab a drink and a small plate or a bowl of hot and sour soup!
Food to Fill the Hungry Tummy
The Skinny Pancake: One word: Crepes! Located right on the mountain in the Spruce Peak Plaza, the Skinny Pancake is the perfect meal to satisfy you until dinner. Our go to order has always been the Lovemaker, which is a crepe filled with chocolate hazelnut spread and strawberries. Delicious! They also have a second location downtown by Stowe Cinema.
Doc Ponds: Always one of our favorites after skiing because the food is delicious and it’s a great place to go with friends. Beer, light bites to eat, good music, and booze filled milkshakes. Do we need to say anything else?
Idletyme Brewing Company: Cheddar fritters, pretzels the size of your head served with beer cheese, french onion soup… it doesn’t get much more perfect for aprés ski than Idletyme!
Where to Keep the Party Going
Stowe Bowl: Sometimes, the party in Stowe just never ends! After dinner, stop by Stowe Bowl, it’s a boutique bowling alley that serves food, drink and lots of good times! They have an interactive scoring system where you can take silly photos and send competitive messages to your friends on different lanes. It’s always a blast!
Rimrocks: For more late night fun, check out Stowe’s best sports bar, Rimrocks. They have pool tables and some fun arcade games in the back.
Alfies Wild Ride: Looking for something a little on the wild side? Check out Alfie’s! Often, they have a DJ or some kind of live entertainment. It’s open late so you can keep the party going all night long. Just don’t stay out too late or you’ll miss first chair in the morning!
